Autumn Gold Celebrating Monroe County for 46 Years!

Written by The Bingham Group

Forty-six years is a long time to celebrate, but for those who call Monroe County home, the years have been as golden as the festival itself.

Celebrating many lifetimes of heritage and history in the area, the Autumn Gold Festival at Coker Creek brings people together for a rousing two days of fun and culture. There are activities for those of all ages, from the young to the young at heart, including free wagon and horseback rides, board splitting demonstrations and panning for gold.

For those who enjoy handmade crafts, the festival typically draws more than 70 regional artists and crafters with a wide array of goods. Food vendors and entertainers will ensure you are well fed and diverted as you bask in a region renowned for the Cherokee National Forest, Cherohala Skyway and a rich Native American heritage.

For the third year in a row, the festival will take place at the Coker Creek Elementary School and nearby Ruritan Club. This yearly event is the main fundraiser for the Coker Creek Ruritan Club, which is dedicated to preserving the history and serenity of the rural, small-town life enjoyed by many in Monroe County.

Come join in the fun on Saturday, **, and Sunday, **. Adult tickets are $3, senior citizens $2, and children get in for only $1. Children under 6 are free. Gates usually open at 9:30am, so come early, and plan to have a “golden” time!
